Defending champion and second seed Aravane Rezai of France crashed out of the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions on Friday at Nusa Dua, Bali.
The world number 18 was trounced 6-1, 6-2 by Russian Alisa Kleybanova, world ranked 27. Kleybanova parried the Frenchwoman's blasting groundstrokes with excellent defensive play and strong serving. Rezai also was her own worst enemy with her inconsistent play.
Three of the four seeds in the tournament have lost in their first matches, including world number one and top seed Li Na of China. She was upset by veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm of Japan 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 on Thursday night.
