The Corruption Court sentenced on Friday suspended regent of Brebes, Central Java, Indra Kusuma to two years in prison for corruption in the procurement of land for a market extension project in 2003.
The court also ordered Indra to pay Rp 250 million (US$27,700) in fine or else he serves another six months in prison.
"The defendant is legally guilty of committing continuous acts of corruption," presiding judge Nani Indrawati told a court hearing.
According to the panel of judges, Indra had abused his authority to enrich other parties by approving the procurement of the land at an inflated price.
The graft case is said to cause Rp 7.8 billion in state losses. (lnd)
