DENPASAR: Heavy rain caused minor floods in several areas in Denpasar on Sunday, triggering severe traffic congestion.
The densely populated areas of Monang Maning, Sanglah, Dalung and Panjer suffered heaviest with floodwaters reaching a depth of 60 centimeters. The outdated and poorly constructed drainage network in the areas was overwhelmed by the torrential rains that lasted hours.
Many residents were forced to move their motorcycles into their living rooms as water inundated their yards. Traffic was gridlocked in most parts, particularly in Sanglah when motorists struggled with flooded engines. —JP
