Police are prepared for a mass demonstration against the visit of US
President Barack Obama to Jakarta today, Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen.
Sutarman says.
“The protesters include members of Hizbut Tahrir and the People’s Bastion of
Democracy [Bendera], but they are only allowed to gather 100 meters from the
sites to be visited by Obama,” Sutarman said as quoted by Kompas.com on
Monday.
“Go ahead and hold demonstrations, but do so appropriately,” he said.
Obama, who once lived in Jakarta during his childhood, is due to begin his state
visit to Indonesia on Tuesday, after having canceled his two previous planned visits
this year.
With his tight schedule, Obama is due to leave again on Wednesday for the G20
summit in South Korea.
