PT Timah production drops from weather

State tin producer PT Timah says its production may decline by 5,000 tons this year as a result of irregular weather conditions.

“This year we will produce around 40,000 tons of tin ore in total,” Timah president director Wahid Usman said Monday evening, adding that this year the company was targeting to produce 50,000 tons.

Last year, the company produced 45,000 tons.

Wahid said Timah was usually able to produce 4,000 tons per month under normal weather conditions.

While production had dropped, Wahid was optimistic that tin prices would continue to increase.

“In the early 2010, tin prices were at US$19,000 per on. I predict the price will be around $26,000 next year,” he said.
