A number of people waiting outside Istiqlal Grand
Mosque in Jakarta to see US President Barack Obama said Wednesday they were
happy to finally see the president they were used to only seeing on TV.
“I came all the way from Tangerang only to see [Obama],”
said Robby, a resident of Tangerang.
Obama passed Jl. Juanda, just in front of Istiqlal,
for around 30 seconds.
Crowds waiting for him waved at Obama and he responded
with a similar gesture from behind his bulletproof car window.
“I'm so happy to be able to see Obama,” said Sainah,
60, who came from Bantul, Yogyakarta.
“I am here to show my respect to our guest,” she said.
However, not everyone who wanted to see Obama had
their wishes fulfilled.
Tasya, 20, from Bekasi, said she had wanted to shake
hands with Obama.
“The guards did not let me in. I am very
disappointed,” she said.
