Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo warned capital
market regulators on Wednesday to stay away from market players.
“Regulators must maintain objectivity. [Capital
market regulators] should stay away from players,” Agus told hundreds of
participants at an Investor Summit and Capital Market Expo at the Ritz-Carlton
Hotel Pacific Place in Jakarta.
Agus spoke before officials of the Capital Market
and Financial Institution Supervisory Agency (Bapepam-LK) and the Indonesia
stock exchange (IDX) in hope of improving the capital market in Indonesia.
Agus added that the market had shown a stellar
performance, with the Jakarta Composite Index scoring all-time highs, and
overall market capitalization surpassing Rp 3,100 trillion (US$ 340 billion)
this year.
“The average net value of daily transactions on the
stock exchange has reached Rp 4.5 trillion. That's impressive.”
