Private airline Lion Matahari Air on
Thursday began using Terminal 1B at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport for all
of its routes to cities in Sumatra, and the Central Kalimantan capital, Palangkaraya.
“Lion needed the new terminal
because terminal 1A was serving more people than it was intended to, making it uncomfortable,”
Lion Air general affairs director Edward Sirait said.
However, Lion will continue to use terminal
1A
for other routes, he said.
At Terminal 1B, Lion has its own
dedicated check-in counters and boarding gates, Edward said, adding that
the new terminal will serve 65 of the airline’s 143 flights a day.
Lion currently
has 61 aircraft.
