State-owned bank PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia says that acquiring private bank PT Bank Bukopin is one option to support small and medium enterprises in the country.
“Purchasing Bukopin’s stake is one of our efforts to work in line with government regulation, such as the single presence policy (SPP), ” BRI spokesperson Muhammad Ali told The Jakarta Post Sunday.
However, he refused to offer comments on Bukopin’s rejection to sell to BRI.
“It is too early to comment on the rejection. We still [need further] reviews,” Muhammad Ali said, adding that BRI had yet to convey its concept to Bukopin.
State-Owned Enterprises Minister Mustafa Abubakar confirmed on Friday that Bukopin had decided not to sell its stake to BRI because it had planned to sell a 30 percent stake in a rights issue next year to maintain its Capital Adequate Ratio (CAR) of 12 percent.
