Vladmir Chertkov has accused Indian
officials of racism, the Russian-born gymnastics coach claiming he
was "insulted and humiliated" before he quit the Asian Games team
and returned to New Delhi.
Cherkov told Press Trust of India that he was upset when Abhay
Singh Chautala, head of the India's games delegation, asked him to
go because he was not properly dressed for Friday night's opening
ceremony at Guangzhou.
Chautala told PTI that Chertkov wanted to wear jeans and T-shirt
but was told he needed to be in the team uniform. Chertkov, who
reportedly left without telling team officials, said it was now too
late to resolve the issue and return to Guangzhou.
Competition started Saturday, and the games continue to Nov. 27.
