JAKARTA: Indonesia will host the 10th Asia-Pacific Roundtable for Sustainable Consumption and Production in Yogyakarta from Nov. 9 –11. Researchers, business people, government representatives and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will attend the forum, which has been formed to promote consumption and production of environment-friendly products.
“We are grateful to host such an event, as it shows that other countries have acknowledged our commitments to environmental issues,” Environment Minister Gusti Muhammad Hatta said, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Indonesia would introduce domestic goods produced using sustainable methods in the forum, which is expected to be attended by representatives from 36 countries, he said.
Many local business people had followed sustainable methods of producing batik and managing waste, he said.
“For example, we can produce biogas from cattle manure,” he added.
The minister believes that it is time for local goods to be introduced in such a forum so that Indonesia could establish agreements with other countries on producing sustainable products. — JP
