ANGERANG: Customs and Excise officers have arrested an Iranian man for smuggling 450 grams of crystal methamphetamine at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
Airport customs office chief investigator Gatot Sugeng Wibowo said Monday the suspect, Saman Hasan Zade, an employee of an Iranian telecommunications firm, had arrived on an Emirates flight from Dubai on Sunday.
“The scanner at the check point identified a strange object in his luggage and when officers opened it, they found the substance wrapped in aluminum foil,” he said.
Gatot said the suspect later admitted he had received the drugs from a man in Tehran and planned to deliver the drugs to a man in Jakarta.
“Unfortunately, the man who ordered the drugs seemed to be aware of the situation. He was gone when we checked his address,” he said.
The suspect will be charged with violating Article 133 of the 2009 antidrugs law, which carries the death penalty. — JP
