The South Tangerang Election Commission will announce on Wednesday the winners of the city’s recent poll for mayor and deputy mayor.
The commission will hold a plenary meeting at Syarief Hidayatullah Islamic University in East Ciputat at 1 p.m. to finalize the ballot count for the city’s seven districts and name the winners.
"We will calculate the total of the ballots we've collected and announce the victors," commission member Nasrullah said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com newsportal.
Nasrullah said that his commission would not be influenced by the two campaigns that have already claimed victory in the race: Arysid-Andre Taulani and Airin Rachmi Diany-Benjamin Davnie.
"We will rely on our own calculations - and we will do it today," he asserted.
According to a quick count compiled by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) and Citra Indonesia Consultants, 44 percent of the municipality’s 732,190 registered voters went to the polls.
The Airin-Benyamin campaign was in first place with 147,824 votes (46.09 percent) followed by the Arsid-Andre campaign with 146,590 (45.83 percent), according to the quick count.
The Yayat Sudradjat-Norodom Sukarno campaign garnered 6 percent and the Rodiah Najibah-Sulaiman Yasin campaign 2 percent.
South Tangerang - which is comprised of Ciputat, East Ciputat, Pamulang, Pondok Aren, Serpong, North Serpong and Setu - is currently home to more than a million people.
