The government has issued a notification allowing airlines to reopen services from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Yogyakarta’s Adisucipto airport following a decline in the volcanic activity of Mt. Merapi, an official says.

State airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II corporate secretary Hari Cahyono said over the weekend that six airlines had services plying the route, but only three would begin operating the route immediately.

“Three airliners, Garuda Indonesia, Sriwijaya Air and Air Asia resumed their operations starting Sunday,” Hari said.
Hari said Lion Air was expected to resume flying to Yogyakarta on Friday, and that Mandala Air and Batavia Air would not reopen their services until December.

He did not state why Lion Air, Mandala and Batavia would need more time.
