Letter: Pope doesn’t endorse condoms

Though God, in his mystery, has a way of deriving good from evil, St.
Paul clearly tells us that we “should never do evil that good may come
of it” (Rom. 3:8).
The Pope is in no way endorsing condoms — even in exceptional cases. He
’s merely stating that it could be the first step of a particular
individual to realize that their action is indeed wrong.
His example of a male prostitute is very intentional. The Church doesn’t
believe that male prostitution is a good thing. Hence, the church is
not going to endorse anything that would facilitate that behavior even
if it’s with the good intention of protecting one’s self or another
(i.e. from contacting AIDS). That good intention doesn’t change the
nature of the behavior itself.
