DENPASAR: Bali Police chief Insp. Gen. Hadiatmoko called on investors, property owners and businesses to hire security officers to prevent crime.

“Cases of theft and robbery are increasing and we hope all parties also take part in keeping the island safe,” he said.

Hadiatmoko said many business owners did not hire security guards or even installed CCTV cameras on their property.

Strategic business areas including banks, supermarkets, offices, gas stations are often targets for criminals.

“Two weeks ago, a gas station in Jimbaran was robbed. There were no security guards on the premises,” Hadiatmoko said.

Bali Police partnership department head IGN Agung Astika called on businesses to stay on alert in the run-up to the year-end holidays.

“Bali will be full of visitors, and consequently criminals who want to capitalize on this,” he said. — JP
