Elderly couple injured in fire in Bekasi

Seventy-year-old Saluh and his wife, 60-year-old Sukmanah, suffered severe burn injuries in a fire in their house in Bekasi on Wednesday, the Jakarta Police information center reported.

The accident occurred when Saluh was handling a container of gasoline near a stove where Sukmanah was cooking in their house in Taruma Jaya in Bekasi. The gasoline spilled and was ignited by the stove.

The couple was taken to the Bekasi general hospital.

Saluh suffered severe burn injuries on his back, arms and legs, and Sukmanah on most of her body.

Taruma Jaya district police Chief Adj. Comr. Suari said the incident was being investigated.
