Construction of the 6-lane Sunda Strait
bridge is waiting for a presidential regulation, a minister says.
“We are still waiting for a regulation
to build the bridge,” Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa said
after meeting with the Public Works Ministry and the Banten administration in
Jakarta on Monday afternoon.
The President issued a regulation
forming the Sunda Strait bridge national team in 2009.
Hatta said that the government would
form a board on the Sunda Strait bridge, which would in turn name a company to
build a 26-kilometer-long suspension bridge that would connect Java and Sumatra.
“Construction may need Rp 140 trillion [US$
15.5 billion] in investment,” he said, adding the estimate included building dual
railway tracks on the bridge.
Construction of the bridge would begin
in 2013, Hatta said.
