Tangerang regency police have arrested five suspects allegedly
involved in drug trafficking and seized 87.7 kilograms of marijuana worth Rp
400 million as evidence in Cikupa and Bogor, West Java.
Cikupa police chief Insp. Yuli Haryudo identified two suspects
as Asep, 21, and M. Efendi alias Mumu, 21, both residents of Sukamulya village,
Cikupa district, Tangerang regency.
Three other suspects arrested in Bogor
are identified as Dian Herdiyanto alias Ucok, 26, Gunawan alias Adi, 23, and
Saiful Bahri alias Japra, 26, residents of Palasari, Cijeruk district, Bogor regency, West Java.
“We managed to arrest the suspects following a tip from
community members, telling us that Asep and Mumu would conduct a transaction in
Sukamulya village on Nov. 24, Heryudo told a press conference Tuesday.
Plain clothes officers sent to observe the transaction found
the two suspects carrying 500 grams marijuana. The officers arrested them directly.
Under questioning the suspects testified they obtained the drugs from someone
in Ciawi.
Officers then took the two suspects to the designated address
in Ciawi on Nov. 26, where they nabbed three other suspects and seized 74 bricks
of marijuana weighing 87.2 kilograms.
“The three suspects
claimed they were asked to distribute the drugs to students and community
members by a man named Ismail. We are still hunting for him,” Heryudo said,
adding that the suspects would be charged with violating Article 114 of the
2009 law on drugs.
The law carries a maximum punishment of 20 years in prison.
