President warns KPK of
slanderous accusations

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to ensure that information that comes from whistleblowers is not slanderous.

“If there is no [guarantee], there could be mix-ups between true reports and false ones made by those who are broken hearted at losing regional elections,” Yudhoyono said Wednesday at the KPK national conference in Jakarta.

Yudhoyono applauded the KPK system that protects and conceals the identity of informers. But, there should be a mechanism to filter the information that comes in, he said.

“There is a lot of information reported to the KPK. There is a lot that comes to me too. Some of it has already been checked to see if it is true or not. Some of the information was inaccurate, or there may have been personal problems,” Yudhoyono said.

The presumption of innocence and the supremacy of the law should be enforced in the eradication of corruption, he added.
