Amphetamines and BlackBerrys seized at airport

Customs and excise officers reported they seized 569 BlackBerry smartphones, worth Rp 1.5 billion (US$166,500), and 355 grams of crystal methamphetamine smuggled in three separate shipments through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
“We detained five men as suspects. Two Indonesians, an Iranian and 3 Chinese men,” customs office head Bahaduri Wijayanta said Thursday.
Bahaduri said the two Indonesians, identified as AJL and IDP, flew on Garuda Indonesia from Singapore to Jakarta on Nov. 18. Scanning devices at a checkpoint detected strange objects in their luggage.
“When the luggage was opened, officers found 489 BlackBerrys of various types such as BlackBerry Storms, BlackBerry Onyxs and BlackBerry Bolds that were not reported on their declaration forms,” he said.
