Lawmaker to wait and see impact of WikiLeaks documents

A- A A+

Lawmaker Salim Mega from Commission I overseeing defense said the commission would "wait and see" any developments related to a leaked confidential military report.

The website, WikiLeaks, recently published a report on an intelligence operation conducted in Kotaraja, Papua, by the Indonesian Army's Special Forces (Kopassus).

"Of course, they (Kopassus) must make internal corrections and see how far the leak of information not meant for public consumption goes," Salim said.

He added that possible threats caused by the leak in state security secrets must be anticipated through "improvements in the internal system".

"We must create a system to protect our documents," he said.

Besides the leak of security documents through WikiLeaks, several videos depicting the torture of Papuans allegedly by security forces spread through Youtube in October. (gzl)
