A crowd of thousands thronged Yogyakarta’s famous tourist thoroughfare on Sunday morning for a feast.
The feast began at 7 a.m. when hundreds of cones of steamed rice with and meat were served to people on Jl. Malioboro, which was closed for the event, as reported by kompas.com online news portal.
Yogyakarta Governor Sultan Hamengkubuwono X officially opened the event, cutting into a cone of steamed rice and handing a portion to Yogyakarta mayor Herry Zudianto.
Herry said the feast was a proof that Yogyakarta was still safe and convenient to visit after the recent eruption of nearby Mount Merapi.
