Hundreds of houses in Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, became inundated by floodwaters at around three a.m. Tuesday morning.
Floodwaters reached depths between 50 and 200 centimeters.
According to information gathered by beritajakarta.com, the water came from Bogor, West Java, which was slammed by heavy rains Monday afternoon and evening.
Water levels at the Katulampa sluice gate in Bogor increased to 130 centimeters , some 50 centimeters higher than the manageable limit of 80 centimeters.
The worst flooding struck homes next to the Cilliwung River, where residences were flooded by water between 150 and 200 centimeters deep.

Residents were still waiting for help from the East Jakarta administration, Faisal said, adding they are expecting food relief.
The water began receding Tuesday afternoon.
Thirty public order officers are on stand by in the area to help residents.
