A peaceful rally to commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day in Jakarta was marred by a clash between protesters and police officers in front of the Corruption Eradication Commission office in Central Jakarta on Thursday afternoon.
Hundreds of students from several universities across the city attempted to break into the commission's premises, but some 500 police officers stopped them and tried to disperse them.
The tension turned into chaos after the students started hitting the officers with bamboo sticks while the officers fought back with batons.
Police arrested at least three protesters. Several students sustained head injuries, as reported by tribunnews.com news portal.
