Constitutional judge Akil Mochtar rated the investigation performed by the Constitutional Court's internal investigation team as “rubbish” as the team failed to question a key witness in a suspected blackmail and bribery case.
Lawyer and activist Refly Harun, who headed the team, accused the court of taking bribes in the Simalungun regent elections in an op-ed piece in Kompas daily.
He claimed to have seen the money intended for the justices to help out Simalungun Regent Jopinus Ramli Saragih, who was accused of manipulating his election win.
According to Akil, whose name was mentioned as the recipient of the bribe, the team had failed to question Saragih.
He added that the team failed to confirm the suspicion with the regent and based the reports on the testimonies of Refly and Maheswara Prabandono, Saragih's lawyer in the dispute.
“If it's like this, the result of the work is rubbish,” Akil was quoted to say by kompas.com news portal.
