JAKARTA: The Jakarta administration plans to widen the section of road stretching from the Plaza Semanggi mall to the Crowne Hotel in Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, to ease the traffic bottleneck that buuilds in that spot.
“This lane runs into the one that vehicles use to enter the Semanggi I toll road. So we are trying to anticipate a potential problem,” Governor Fauzi Bowo said when he inspected the site where a new TransJakarta busway corridor will be built.
Corridor IX, which the administration plans to implement by the end of this month, will run in front of the mall and hotel.
Fauzi said his administration had included the road widening plan in its 2011 budget, and would work with the Jakarta Police to manage traffic congestion.
Jakarta Police Traffic Division head Sr. Comr. Royke Lumowa said the police would implement a stop-and-go system during peak hours.
“This is to prevent congestion caused by vehicles cutting across the busway to enter the toll road,” he added, as reported by beritajakarta.com. — JP
