The Rape of Nanjing: In this Monday photo, pigeons are released during a ceremony marking the 73rd anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese troops at the memorial hall of Nanjing massacre, in Nanjing, in east China's Jiangsu Province. Nanjing suffered a rampage of murder, rape and looting by Japanese troops in 1937 that became known as "The Rape of Nanjing," using the name which the city was then known in the West. The Japanese army slaughtered at least 150,000 civilians and raped tens of thousands of women.
