EKASI: On the night the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)detained Bekasi Mayor Mochtar Muhammad, police arrested six officials from the municipality who were having a party in a club in downtown Jakarta.

Members of the city police arrested on Monday night head of the Bekasi city planning agency Rayendra Sukarmaji and five colleagues at an upmarket club in West Jakarta.

The Police confiscated ecstasy pills that they found hidden under a couch.

On Tuesday, Rayendra denied the report saying that he had been attending the birthday party of one of his colleagues.

Rayendra spoke to Bekasi deputy mayor Rahmat Effendi on Tuesday, Tempointeraktif reported.

Rayendra approached Rahmat during a Koran reciting contest in Bekasi, saying: “I swear to God that I did not participate in the party.”

Rahmat dismissed the denial and told Rayendra to repent for what he considered a sinful act.

Rayendra said the party raid had been a rumor spread by his political rivals who did not want him promoted to Bekasi city secretary. — JP
