South Jakarta District Court is scheduled to issue a verdict on
businessman Andi Kosasih on Thursday for his involvement in the Gayus H.
Tambunan tax fraud and a bribery case.
“We are going to hear a verdict on Andi’s case today,” South Jakarta
Prosecutor Office head M. Yusuf said as quoted by kompas.com.
Prosecutors believed that Andi lied when he testified that Rp 28
billion (US$3 million) in Gayus’ bank account had come from a land deal between
him and Gayus.
They also claimed that Andi had accepted Rp 4 billion from Gayus
from a crime and showed evidence that Andi bribed Comr. Arafat Enanie with Rp 5
million. Prosecutors demanded Andi be jailed for six and a half years.
Andi has pleaded not guilty to the accusations. He said he only wanted to
help Gayus’ lawyer Haposan Hutagalong as a friend, without compensation.
He regretted that he surrendered to the National Police, saying he wished he
had left for the US to enjoy life there.
“I surrendered because I am not guilty and I want my name rehabilitated,”
Andi said.
