PPP moves national congress from 2012 to 2011

United Development Party (PPP) chairman Surya
Darma Ali says his party will hold a national congress in June 2011 instead of
February 2012 as planned to anticipate an electoral threshold of 5 percent.
“This is to save the PPP’s existence,” Surya
Darma said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com, Wednesday evening in Medan.
He said that PPP votes continued to decrease. “We
see the rule of a 5 percent threshold in the parliament as a serious threat,”
he said. “I am optimistic to exceed the threshold with internal consolidation
by accelerating the national congress.”
Surya Darma said he would start branch-level and
regional-level meetings in January 2011.
