SBY to attend National Women's Day celebration

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to attend the 82nd commemoration of National Women's Day at the Sasono Langen Budoyo hall in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah in East Jakarta on Wednesday.

Antara newswire reported that First Lady Ani Yudhoyono would accompany President at the celebration, titled Equality for Women to Build the Nation's Character to create a healthy and dignified society.

During the event, the government will present Parahita Ekapraya awards to local leaders and organizations that have been actively involved in efforts to champion gender equality.

The event commemorates the first Indonesian women's congress on Dec 22, 1928 in Yogyakarta.

Vice President Boediono and his wife, Herawati Boediono, as well as Minister for Women's Empowerment Linda Gumelar and Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo are expected to attend the event.
