JAKARTA: A key witness in the Susno Duadji trial provided testimony wherein details given failed to match those already provided by convicted case broker, Sjahril Djohan.
The witness, police officer Adj. Sr. Comr. Syamsul Rizal, testified at the South Jakarta District Court that he met Sjahril at the residence of former National Police detective chief Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji on Dec. 27.
Sjahril was convicted for bribing Susno to ease pressure on a case involving fish breeder PT Salmah Arowana Lestari.
Syamsul claimed he went to Susno’s residence to obtain Susno’s signature on an assignment form.
“I came on Dec. 27, as written on the assignment form,” Syamsul said.
He needed the signature to authorize his departure for the Netherlands in pursuit of a drug case, he said.
Syamsul further added that he had to refer to the date which Susno wrote while signing the form to point out the date of his visit because he forgotten it.
However, the date he mentioned failed to match the date previously supplied by Sjahril.
According to Judge Haswandi, Sjahril had previously testified that the visit took place on Dec. 4. The difference in dates prompted Haswandi to inquire whether somebody had directed Syamsul’s answers.
