Former director general acquitted in Yusril-related graft case

The Supreme Court has acquitted a former director general at the Justice and Human Rights Ministry from all graft charges in a case that also implicated former minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra.

The verdict in favor of the defendant, Romly Atmasasmita, was issued by a panel of judges comprising Mohammad Taufik, Zaharuddin Utama and Suwardi.

Romly’s lawyers, Denny Kailimang and Juniver Girsang, said the judges had not found any evidence the defendant committed corruption in an online service run by the Justice and Human Rights Ministry.

The verdict overruled the district court decision that sentenced Romly to two years in prison, which was subsequently reduced to one year imprisonment by the High Court.

Former minister Yusril Ihza said the Supreme Court verdict had direct implications for his case and demanded prosecutors drop a similar charge against him.
