Heavy rains pouring from Sunday night to Monday morning have flooded hundreds of houses in Muarojambi, Jambi, especially those located in the lowlands and near the riverbank.
The Antara news wire reported that the floodwater was as high as 30 cm in North Jambi, Telanaipura, and Jelutung.
Jambi’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast the rainfall in Jambi to last until the first week of January, and exceed the normal range of 250 to 300 mm.
BMKG Jambi head Remus L. Tobing said that although the last four days had been dry, this week and next week the heavy rains would continue in the river area.
Water transportation vessels and other vessels are reminded not to carry goods and passengers above their permitted load capacities, since strong winds and thunderstorms will likely follow the rain.
