Letter: Healthcare for the poor

This is in reference to “Health insurance for the poor — necessary but insufficient,” (The Jakarta Post, Dec. 20, Review & Outlook).
Instead of promoting higher wages, which no doubt would be a bonus, what about helping these doctors to have the self-awareness of their codes and ethics of their chosen career?
I am sure this will help not only in the long run, but as a more efficient way to reduce the unnecessary spending, so the government can focus and concentrate on more important problems.
Also, if the government can consider the idea of spending time in rural and remote places as part of their completion of a study, it will be a program these new heroes cannot refuse to take on.
I realize it is a long and winding road ahead, but as they say, it won’t happen over night, but it will happen.
All the very best for the future health of the Indonesian people.
