Letter: Our anti-graft system works
The Jakarta Post | Mon, 12/27/2010 10:57 AM
I am a diplomat but to be honest what was written by Hasyim (RI diplomats abuse state funds, The Jakarta Post, Dec. 16, p. 2) did happen a few years back before some changes took place.
I wonder why he wrote it now and the Post put it as a headline article. The case was found by our internal system and the internal system reported it to the authorities.
This is to say that the anticorruption system does work in the ministry. Cannot Indonesians support us for these latest efforts?
On Bobo magazine (subscription paid for by state funds), I cannot comment because I didn’t do that. But I wish our country would have an FPO system like the US or UK where all foreign diplomats (and soldiers) pay local costs for sending and receiving mail, parcels and packages.
We do not want our kids get brainwashed by foreign content and need to introduce them to what we think are Indonesian values. If that gentleman chose to order Bobo, that is entirely his decision, but I am talking about teaching our kids about Indonesian values. One way is through magazines.
On phone calls, does anybody in Indonesia know that receiving calls is an expense overseas? When we were asked to keep our mobile phones on 24 hours/day to serve the community we received hundreds of calls a day, ranging from business matters to personal things. Who was going to pay for these calls?
