The Yogyakarta administration says it estimates there are 30 temples still buried by ash and lava from Mount Merapi’s many previous eruptions.
“Our archeologists are still trying to find the temples using remote sensing devices,” Yogyakarta culture agency head Djoko Dwiyanto said on Wednesday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Djoko said the agency has allocated Rp 10 billion (US$1.11 million) a year to search for the temples.
