President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono held a Cabinet meeting Wednesday to discuss the bill on the government administration as part of bureaucracy reform in the country.
Several ministers such as State Administrative Reform Minister E.E. Mangindaan, Justice and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar, National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo and Indonesian Military chief Adm. Agus Suhartono attended the meeting.
"This bill is very important,” Yudhoyono said at the meeting held at the Presidential Office. “We want to develop this country and it will need an effective government that has good management both for central and provincial governments."
Yudhoyono said that although the government had carried out some evaluations on good and efficient government, Indonesia still faced three challenges on weak law enforcement, rampant corruption and ineffective bureaucracy.
"[If passed], the law on government administration will provide certainty. There will be punishment for those who violate the law," Yudhoyono said.
