Flood victims living near the Deli and Babura Rivers remain wary of flash floods, while floods that submerged hundreds of houses in Medan have begun to subside since Wednesday evening.
Residents in the Hamdan subdistrict in Medan Maimun have refused to leave their shelter at the local subdistrict office for fear that floods will return, especially since light showers were falling on Friday morning.
However, several residents have returned home to begin the cleanup, tempointeraktif.com reported Friday.
The floods that hit Medan were the second worst since those that hit the city in 2003, which submerged hundreds of houses in the subdistricts of Hamdan and Multatuli.
The local administration has promised to provide rice aid to flood victims.
