About 1,000 police officers will be dispatched to secure the opening match of the Indonesian Premier League (LPI) at Manahan Stadium in the Central Java town of Surakarta on Saturday afternoon.

The match will be between the Solo FC soccer club from Central Java and the Persema Malang club from East Java.

“Security is our main concern, so we’ll dispatch a large number of security officers. We’ve learned from previous competitions,” LPI spokesman Abi Hasantoso said as quoted by kompas.com.

He added, however, that he believed no brawls would occur between supporters of the two teams following the match.

“Neither Solo FC nor Persema Malang supporters have been involved in brawls before. Matches taking place in Solo (Surakarta) have always ended peacefully,” Abi said.
