Healthier life for successful aging

A- A A+

JAKARTA: Healthier lifestyles would strengthen the biological system needed by older people to better adapt to natural changes, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital medical rehabilitation specialist Mariana Moeliono said Saturday.

“Aging people will be able to maintain the functions of their body as long as they routinely practice physical exercise,” she told a discussion on Saturday.

Mariana said Indonesia should make more efforts to help the aging generation maintain its health, especially considering that Indonesia’s aging population would reach 70 million people by 2030.

Aging is part of the human cycle, but people can stay healthy by exercising regularly to accelerate the body’s metabolism. People should maintain a regiment of physical exercise for lower blood pressure, blood glucose and insulin, and should avoid cholesterol, Mariana said.

Apart from routine physical exercise, the elderly would enjoy healthier lives by maintaining their social networks and a positive mental attitude. — JP
