State toll operator PT Jasa Marga revealed Tuesday that the company would join the bidding to be an operator for the Surabaya-Madura (Suramadu) bridge.
The government will hold a bid to select an operator for the bridge for the next five years in April 2011.
“We are interested in joining the tender, “Jasa Marga corporate secretary Okke Merlina told The Jakarta Post in a recent interview.
Okke said that Jasa Marga had been working as a Suramadu operator since 2009 or after the bridge was officially opened to the public.
Previously, the company had won the tender as operator, offering Rp 10.8 billion in payment for 1.5 years in 2009. The company defeated two other competitors.
Suramadu bridge, which is 5-kilometers long, is the longest bridge in the country. The bridge was built to connect Surabaya to Madura and cost Rp5.4 trillion in investment.
