Notorious
graft suspect and former high-ranking police official Comr. Gen. Susno Duaji is
scheduled to stand trial on Tuesday at South Jakarta District Court, South
Jakarta Prosecutors’ Office chief M Yusuf said Tuesday.
Susno
stole the media spotlight last year when he revealed several large-scale
corruption cases at the taxation directorate. The former chief detective leaked
information regarding cases allegedly implicating high-ranking police officers
and other members of legal institutions. These included the recent case that
eventually dragged graft suspect Gayus Tambunan to court.
The
hearing on Tuesday is slated to hear testimonies from witnesses regarding Susno’s
alleged involvement in the embezzlement of security funds intended for the 2008
gubernatorial election in West Java, where he was the police chief at that time.
The
witnesses had initially been scheduled to appear last week. However, the hearing
for the first witness, (Ret) Sr. Comr. Maman Abdurrahman Pasha, took almost six
hours to complete and ended late in the day.
Susno
was also under the weather that day, and a doctor from a medical NGO, Mer-C,
confirmed in front of judges that Susno was unfit for the proceedings to
continue.
