Tangerang to act on illegal dumping

The Tangerang administration says it will act against people leaving trash from nearby Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at the municipality’s Rawa Kucing dump.

“Dumping airport garbage at Rawa Kucing is a violation. We are going to halt the activity and shut down the dump site as soon as possible,” Tangerang Mayor Wahidin Halim said on Tuesday.

Wahidin said the dumping was the work of a group of individuals. “We are still tracking down the whereabouts of the people. After we find out who they are, we will process them legally.

Airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II was not to blame since the garbage had been dumped at Rawa Kucing without its knowledge, Wahidin said

The illegally-dumped garbage was unprocessed, unlike regular airport trash, and had polluted the nearby neighborhood, he added.
