Residents in Anyer beach and Cinangka, Banten, have reported hearing repeated explosions coming from Anak Krakatau volcano in the Sunda Strait.
“We can feel the tremors from the explosions,” Anak Krakatau monitoring post chief Anton S. Pambudi said Thursday, as quoted by Antara.
Since Tuesday, residents had reported their windows were shaken at least six times, Anton said.
“The tremors are still happening,” he quoted residents as saying.
Despite the volcanic activity, Anton said the Bandung Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center had yet to increase its warning level for the volcano.
The center currently prohibits residents and visitors from coming within a 2-kilometer radius of Anak Krakatau.
“The volcano is still spewing volcanic debris, which can be deadly,” he said.
Anak Krakatau has also emitted a grayish plume of smoke, up to 1,200 meters high.
