Golkar promise to set aside impeachment off the table

Golkar Party Politician Priyo Budi Santoso says his party is not interested in playing the impeachment card even though the Constitutional Court's recent ruling has paved the way in that direction.

“We aren’t interested in discussing any option that might lead to impeachment. We will use the questioning rights as an attempt to monitor the follow-ups of the Bank Century bailout recommendation,” Priyo told a press conference on Friday.

The statement was made following the insinuation of Priyo's colleague at Golkar, Bambang Soesatyo, on the possibility of Golkar using the questioning rights as a tool to impeach the President.

The Constitutional Court has just issued a ruling that runs in favor of the lawmakers’ request, which asks the court to lower the minimum requirement needed for lawmakers to use the questioning right on the government over a case.

Most of the lawmakers then praised the ruling. They vowed to use the momentum to question the government over the late response on the House's special commission recommendation over the Bank Century bailout case.
