Lawmakers vow to prevent the tax mafia eradication committee
from political intervention that might bend the committee from its initial
goal to unveil the protectors behind tax graft suspect Gayus Tambunan.
“I fully realize that political works are not sterile from
politicking attempts. But we will be all out to set up transparency on the highest
level so that the people would be able to see what really happens with the
committee’s work,” Eva Kusuma Sundari, lawmaker from the Indonesian Democratic
Party of Struggle (PDIP), told The
Jakarta Post Saturday.
Democratic Party lawmaker Pieter Zulkifli was in harmony
with Eva, saying that he greatly expected that the committee would focus on the
effort to debunk the greater perpetrators from the tax graft case. He then
expected the media to strictly monitor the process later on.
“With the favor of media, I expect that those who have the hidden
agenda would think twice to play the tricks,” he reasoned.
The House Law Commission has organized a new working committee
that is aimed at revealing the graft case that sees Gayus as one of the
suspects. The lawmakers have also argued that the committee would be set to encourage
the police to be all out in spotting those who should be held responsible over
the case that is allegedly inflicted huge state losses.
