The government will channel Rp 50 billion [US$5.55 million] to the national soccer team, Angelina Sondakh of House Commission X said Sunday.
“The Indonesian Soccer Association [PSSI] once requested Rp 100 billion for the 2010-11 budget. During the 2010 AFF Cup, it requested Rp 20 billion, but only Rp 10 billion was approved. This year, we have approved Rp 50 billion," she said Sunday, as quoted by kompas.com.
Angelina said the Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry would be in charge of the budget spending.
"The institution in charge will channel [the funds] to the PSSI. But the money is with the Finance Ministry..."
The soccer team, which recently enjoyed revived popularity for its multiple victories in the Asian Football Federation Cup, will face three important matches this year: the pre-Olympics and the Southeast Asian Games.
