The Canadian-based BlackBerry smartphone manufacturer, Research in Motion (RIM), said they were committed to complying with the requirements set by the Indonesian government after a meeting with government representatives on Monday.
Gregory Wade, the managing director for RIM Southeast Asia, said that RIM was focused on fully complying with the requirements articulated by the Indonesian government, including the filtering of pornographic content from their smartphone services.
"With regards to content filtering, of course, from our perspective, we have articulated to the ministry that it is our full intent to comply with the timeframes as well as the [regulatory] architecture," he said on Monday.
RIM and the Indonesian government, represented by several related directorate generals such as the directorate general of resources and equipment in the postal service and telecommunications, discussed the requirements RIM had to meet to operate in Indonesia.
The discussions came after Communications and Information Technology Minister Tifatul Sembiring threatened to block certain services available on BlackBerry smartphones if RIM failed to filter pornographic websites by the end of this month.
Wade said that RIM would collaborate with the six local operators to filter the content.
"They are a very critical component in the delivery of the solution that we have discussed," he added.
